Join Us for the 3rd Annual Speed Social Connecting Neurodivergent Adults on July 25th

Finding meaningful connections can be challenging for neurodivergent adults. Many social events do not cater to their unique needs, making it harder to build friendships and share interests. That’s why the 3rd Annual neurodivergent speed social is a special opportunity designed just for this community. Taking place on July 25th from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at PZK Hall, right after the resource fair, this event offers a welcoming space for neurodivergent adults and their support persons to meet, connect, and enjoy a relaxed social experience.

What Makes This Neurodivergent Speed Social Unique

This is not just any social event. It’s crafted specifically for neurodivergent adults and those with exceptional needs, focusing on comfort, inclusion, and genuine connection. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Ticket Price and Inclusions

Tickets for neurodivergent adults cost $10. This price covers entry, finger foods, drinks, participation in the speed social rounds, and one free ticket for a support person. Additional support persons can join for $5 each.

Tickets are available at: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/3rd-annual-speed-social

Note: If the ticket price is a barrier, individuals can reach out confidentially for a complimentary ticket to ensure everyone can attend by emailing Emily@WhereThePiecesMeet.org with details.

  • How the Speed Social Works

Participants sit on either side of tables, each with a notecard displaying their name and three passions or interests. These might include hobbies like anime, Nintendo, drawing, voice acting, Pokemon, or cooking. This helps break the ice and sparks conversations based on shared interests. Each conversation round lasts two minutes, after which one side moves down a seat to meet someone new. This continues until most attendees have met each other.

  • Support Person and Parent Area

While the neurodivergent adults engage in the speed social, parents and support persons can relax nearby, sharing stories and enjoying snacks. This creates a supportive environment for everyone involved.

Building Friendships and Community

The event has a proven track record of helping attendees form lasting friendships. Some have left with no connections but returned the next time with plans to see movies, exchange Discord usernames, or phone numbers. The format encourages natural interaction without pressure, making it easier for neurodivergent adults to find peers who understand their experiences.

Accessibility and Considerations

The organizers take care to make this a safe and comfortable space for all attendees:

  • Only dog service animals are allowed to respect allergies and sensitivities.

  • Seating arrangements should take into consideration those in neighboring seats allergies or fear of animals to ensure everyone’s comfort. Please ask the person in your neighboring seat if they are comfortable before being seated.

  • The event is designed as an autism-friendly social event, with clear structure and gentle pacing. Please no loud noises, loud speakers on devices, flashing lights on fidgets, etc. Headphones, quiet fidgets, sunglasses, hats, etc. are welcome.

  • Ticket funds go directly back into supporting Where the Pieces Meet, helping to build resources for future events and activities.
